Blue Sky Network Brazil Gets SMGS Certification

La Jolla, Calif. – July 13, 2011 – Blue Sky Network (BSN), a leading, global provider of satellite tracking solutions, announced today that its sister company, BSN Brazil Comunicacao Por Satelite LTDA, has obtained an SMGS license (Non Geostationary Satellite Global Mobile Service) in Brazil, enabling the company to provision Iridium-based satellite services in Brazil.

Iridium delivers connectivity to 100 percent of the globe through the furthest-reaching network in the world, providing voice and data communications far beyond the 10 percent coverage of traditional networks.

“The issuance of this SMGS license will allow BSN Brazil to provide a whole host of Iridium-service based solutions within the Brazilian aviation market—which is one of the largest in the world, as well as the land mobile and marine markets there, too,” says Jon Gilbert, CEO of BSN.

“BSN is a critical member of the Iridium partner ecosystem and this certification marks an important opportunity to deliver communications innovation to the burgeoning Brazilian market, with its huge landmasses, extensive coastlines and expanding aviation community,” said Greg Ewert, executive vice president, global distribution channels, Iridium. “Now BSN can deliver connectivity everywhere in and beyond the country to further help customers reduce costs, increase revenues and make connections that matter.”

This license—along with the company’s recent office opening in Kuwait—is a key milestone in BSN becoming a leading provider of Iridium-based satellite tracking solutions.
