AeroRepublica Selects Blue Sky Network for Satellite Communications Equipment in Its Commercial Airline Fleet
BSN provides near real time flight tracking, voice and data communications for flights in Colombia
La Jolla, Calif. – October 16, 2006 – Blue Sky Network (BSN), the global satellite logistics solution provider for two-way linking and managing remote transportation assets, today announced that AeroRepública has chosen BSN’s equipment for installation in its entire fleet, which operate in Colombia and throughout Latin America. AeroRepublica’s installation of the Blue Sky Network’s tracking, two-way messaging and voice solution enables the first real time web based flight tracking for a commercial airline in Colombia. Like many emerging markets, Colombia does not currently have the existing infrastructure in place to enable this type of aircraft/ground communication link.
The solution gives AeroRepública a complete tracking, messaging, and voice solution allowing easy communication between all their aviation assets and ground control. Using the Blue Sky Network solution, the airline can be in touch with its aircraft at any point during a flight, giving them an added level of safety and assurance. Additionally, those on the ground can use BSN’s online web portal, SkyRouter, for global tracking and event management (take-off, landing, flight time and distance), allowing them to view the location of their aircraft anywhere, anytime.
“The Blue Sky Network solution allows us to significantly improve our flight operations control process including maintaining pilot interaction, proactive maintenance action and fewer technical delays,” said Eduardo Lombana, vice president of operations of AeroRepublica. “We considered other products, but BSN has a cost effective solution that has really improved our operations and safety”
AeroRepublica is installing Blue Sky Network’s ACH1000/D1000C kits on all of its aircraft fleet, McDonnell Douglas MD-81, McDonnell Douglas MD-82, McDonnell Douglas MD-83 and McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30 aircraft. The D1000C satellite modem offers AeroRepublica two-way communications, and instant web-based tracking and position reporting. The ACH1000 advanced control head adds cockpit integrated voice capabilities as well as short code messaging to the global satellite flight tracking of the D1000C.
“We are very pleased that AeroRepública has selected our terrific solution to provide them an entire new dimension of connectivity between these aircraft and their operation center,” said Jon Gilbert, president of Blue Sky Network. “AeroRepublica has become a leader in the aviation transport category by this implementation of our very cost effective and highly functional SATCOM solution.”
