Blue Sky Network Brings Global Maritime Tracking to the Arctic with Royal Arctic Line

Greenland’s main shipping line updates communication capability with satellite coverage and real-time tracking

La Jolla, Calif., January 22, 2008 – Blue Sky Network, the global logistics solution provider for two-way linking and managing transportation assets via satellite, today announced Royal Arctic Line (RAL), Greenland’s principal shipping company, chose Blue Sky Network for its on-ship communications needs. RAL will deploy a global system of communication and real-time tracking using Blue Sky Network’s D3000 transceiver and the Iridium satellite network. The new equipment will streamline fleet management for RAL through interactive and automatic vessel status notifications.

Working in the harsh environments of the Arctic and occasionally Antarctic, RAL operates a container vessel fleet between 13 main ports in Greenland and other foreign destinations as well as maintaining service to 60 settlements in Greenland. The Blue Sky Network D3000 provides tracking and two-way text messaging to any location on Earth, making it easy for RAL to have constant communication even in the remote areas that it operates. The previous position reporting system used by RAL did not provide full coverage of certain areas of the Arctic and Antarctic so they never knew exactly where crews were. Blue Sky Network’s equipment changes this process for them.

“Sailing schedules can be very difficult to adhere to in the Arctic. To navigate effectively through extreme weather conditions, RAL depends on the D3000 tracking and messaging transceiver to safely route vessels and receive weather and ice updates. Working with Blue Sky Network’s secure asset management portal, SkyRouter, RAL has online access to vessel locations, event notifications and interactive mapping with Google Earth integration, with the added capability of allowing its own customers and partners to track vessel locations as well.
