Blue Sky Network offers advanced U.S. Forest Service (USFS) compliant tracking devices and software to track and manage your firefighting assets. Combine this with 100 percent global coverage, satellite voice, and two-way messaging for a complete solution to improve safety and reliability during forest fire season.
Aerial Firefighting Solutions
Our hardware and software now meet Additional Telemetry Unit (ATU) requirements on Automated Flight Following (AFF) data. USFS regulation requires firefighting helicopters to collect ATU data and transmit it to state and national regulators through an AFF device.

The U.S. Forest Service requires Additional Telemetry Unit (ATU) data on board firefighting aircraft to collect logistical mission data. This requires firefighting aircraft to report certain data in the AFF format, including: tank or bucket openings and closings; gallons filled and gallons dropped; and events with GPS data—time, latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, and heading.
ATU data can now integrate with Blue Sky Network software and hardware to transmit the information via the Iridium satellite network to the AFF service’s central fire suppression database.
