Blue Sky Network was Built by — and for — the Explorers

Since our founding, we have empowered exploration by providing the tools and technology to connect any operation, using any asset, anywhere in the world. And now, as a result of the merger between Blue Sky Network (BSN) and Applied Satellite Engineering (ASE), we have the right combination of resources to reinvent the way connectivity and data management are utilized in our industry.

New leadership will be front and center

To guide us through the next chapter, we’re bringing in world-class leaders, including Ron Hume, who joins Blue Sky Network as Chief Technology Officer, the fourth addition to the management team in 2020. Ron is not only a pilot and former customer of BSN, but he is also a serial entrepreneur and technologist experienced in managing through the technical challenges related to launching and productizing rapidly evolving technologies. Most recently, he was performing advanced research for tactical communications – in a bunker, under a volcano. We don’t ask…he doesn’t tell.

Additionally, we have added two other industry veterans as Vice Presidents to the Commercial Team this summer. Ana Maria Edwards joined BSN in June from Network Innovations and leads the channel sales efforts for our team. Jason Hicks joined the BSN team in July as Vice President of Business Development and oversees the expansion of strategic partnerships and leads global business development efforts for the satellite communications portfolio of Blue Sky Network. Previously, Jason worked for Thales as Director of Business Development and is a proud Navy Veteran.

What’s on the horizon?

Data management solutions. We are reintroducing Blue Sky Network Engineering Services — forging a trail with over two decades of design experience. We are excited to have been named an Iridium VAM for the new Certus 100 offering and have recently completed our beta products designed for midband connectivity. Beta trials with customers will run throughout the fourth quarter of 2020 and commercially available products are expected in early 2021. The BSN Certus 100 products are the third innovation BSN will introduce in 18 months (including the FAA- and EASA-approved HawkEye ADT in Nov. 2019 and the dual-mode HawkEye 5500 in June 2020). This team is focused and excited with where we are going.
